SmartCom software gives you fast, efficient, easy to use management of your mobile communications. It supports all dial-up connections over land line, mobile and satellite phones, plus mobile phone GPRS and 3G data, and satellite packet services such as INMARSAT MPDS on Fleet and BGAN services. SmartCom will work with any standard POP/SMTP e-mail. You can either use your existing ISP's dial-up service and e-mail account, or you can use SmartCom's ISP service. SmartCom will not work with CompuServe or AOL, who use non-standard protocols, or with HTTP services such as Hotmail, IMAP services, or as a client for Exchange Server. SmartCom has been designed to be very easy to use once you have entered your dial-up and e-mail account settings, with user friendly messages on any problems encountered.
SmartCom has two aspects to it: managing your dial-up connections, and managing your e-mail. To enhance your dial-up connection, SmartCom offers the following:
- Easy menu selection of the connection you wish to use
- Supports serial, USB, infra-red and Bluetooth connections
- Supports land line, GSM, GPRS and 3G services
- Satellite version also supports Iridium, Thuraya, Globalstar, INMARSAT B, Mini-M, Fleet, BGAN and Regional BGAN services
- Standard connection configurations for many GPRS and satellite services are available, so you can easily set up the software
- Connections can be set up with multiple phone numbers in multiple countries
- It knows the international dialling codes and conventions of all countries, so you can easily dial out from one country to another
- Enhanced error checking catches many problems Windows lets pass through, and gives you helpful error messages
- Optimises TCP/IP network settings to maximise the performance of your connection
- DNS cacheing for faster connection to your ISP, mail server and other sites
- Allows you to switch between more than one phone modem on a given serial port, overcoming Windows' limitations
For e-mail, SmartCom offers the following:
- Works with any POP/SMTP e-mail client, including Outlook and Outlook Express
- Works with any POP/SMTP e-mail account, no need to change your e-mail address
- Manages an unlimited number of e-mail accounts
- Sends and receives e-mail simultaneously, for faster download times
- Minimises the size of outgoing e-mails by removing unnecessary information from the header, optionally converting e-mails to plain text, and optionally stripping out any attachments
- Allows you to preview large incoming e-mails by just viewing the sender, subject, size and date before deciding whether you want to download the mail, delete it on the server, or leave it to be attended later
- Stores the outgoing (SMTP) mail server for each dial-up connection, so you do not need to remember to change it when changing between, say, land line and GPRS connections
- Mail services can be used independently of the dialler, to cater for WiFi, network and other non dial-up internet connections
- Works with compression services such as MailASail, OnSpeed and Iridium Direct Internet 2
